Vineeth Mathew - Introduction

My name is Vineeth. I come from Bangalore, the IT capital and the garden city of the world’s largest democracy, India. I completed my undergraduate studies in mechanical engineering. While pursuing my undergraduate education, I had been fascinated about design and product development that is a need of the hour. Various innovative products would indeed provide a solution to many challenges faced by the society at large. My thoughts had revolved around working across the various disciplines to usher in sustainability in economic development. True art of relations and inter-dependency can be observed in nature. One should seek to admire the connectivity of veins in the smallest leaf. I believe the minuscule facts must be incorporated in today’s dynamically changing scenarios to bring back the lost discipline in our planet, which has evolved over the years.

During my undergraduate coursework, I had the opportunity of initiating an inter-disciplinary robotics society. In the run, I realized the importance of relations across the engineering spectrum and the policies that should govern and advocate such a platform where innovations could flourish. I realized that, when the different fields in engineering converge like the veins of a leaf into a single ‘midrib’, a beneficial area is born - ‘Robotics’. This motivated me to toil towards linking the diverse fields in today’s society, for the benefit of mankind. I felt it essential to venture into the diverse spectrum's governing the world today as necessary platforms need to be built for sustainable economic development. Platforms obeying the ‘Golden ratio’ need to spring out today. I believe these would bridge the gap between the Ancient Philosophical views and the modern technological ideals. It is highly essential to implement the Principles of Nature and the knowledge that our forefathers attained through meditation, in the modern ideals for everlasting social innovations to flourish.

I’m quite critical about the direction that technology is taking today. We see numerous products being developed, with multinational companies targeting the right markets and thus increasing their net profits. With less regulatory norms on the usage of natural resources and declining social relations, man is in a vicious circle of achieving self-centered power, prosperity and fame by developing the same that has its hands laid across areas like defense, automobiles, aircraft's, home appliances etc. have observed that current technologies would develop cost effective products and the desired luxuries that man needs today. But the fact remains that the ego-centric activities have created an imbalance in the rhythm of the planet and the social lives of its inhabitants. Economic development, that would balance the technological, ecological and social initiatives bridging the yawning gap between nations, has always been mysterious to governments and international mediators. I believe that it could be through a collective cooperation, respecting the principles of nature and ancient philosophies sans cultural division, can we ensure the sustenance of natural resources, maintain an ecological rhythm and strive for everlasting peace and harmony.

The degradation of our common environment, displacement of the masses, pollution, democracy and development are the growing concerns of most nations today. Such problems require solutions that cross all frontiers, since no one country can solve them alone. Ways needs to be identified for enhancing the cross border relations, which depend on physical linkages, governmental regulations and administrative procedures. Hence, I would like to research on methods, laws and policies incorporating the natural principles that would ensure lasting solutions from the varied perspectives. The old Sanskrit saying “Vasudevaya Kutumbakam” – the whole world is one family, a world that is peaceful and prosperous, where trade is freer and universally-agreed principles are observed, and in which democracy, the co-existence of civilizations and respect for human rights flourish, is a world one should dream of.
