Zhiqian Huang-Policy Question

What actions, if any, should be taken by Chinese government encourage people do to prevent desertification in Inner Mongolia?


The client of this case policymaker is the Chinese government. “Desertification” means that normal land has been becoming the desert due to overuse for farming and grazing. The Chinese government has the authority to make regulation and policy, which will protect the environment.


Brief Description:
In the past several years, people in Inner Mongolia wanted earn more money. Therefore, they turn more and more natural landscape into the land for farming, and feed more and more livestock. However, In the recent years, due to the overuse for farming and grazing, desertification occurs at part of Inner Mongolia, a north province in China. The desertification causes the water shortage, makes the desert larger and larger, and the local ecosystem is destroying. Also, it will change the local climate. All of these issues will affect life of local people, and local economy development. Therefore, Chinese need policy to solve the problem, prevent the local environment from desertification.     This is a really good policy question memo to me. This question is meaningful and you did neutrally focus on the desertification problem and also clearly pointed out the client. In the brief description section, your explanation helped me better understanding why you chose to address this problem and what it affected to the society.
